The Large K009, Drip Irrigation Kit is The Drip Stores' custom designed kit that contains all the parts needed to cover a very large garden. Including in this drip irrigation kit are 150 pressure compensating drip emitters with flow rates of 1, 2 and 4 GPH (gallons per hour). This drip irrigation kit has 500’ of high quality 1/2" drip hose and 100’ of 1/4" micro tubing that can be used to water more than 150 plants including roses, shrubs, ground cover and trees. This drip irrigation kit includes all the components needed to water small, medium and large size plants, and can accommodate a flow rate of up to 220 GPH, using drip emitters with a variety of flow rates.

Drip irrigation uniformity:
With higher uniformity over a wide range of pressures, the pressure compensating drip emitters, offers many advantages in site preservation with even water distribution, such as even uniformity over a longer lateral run with smaller size valves due to a smaller sized delivery system and resistance to clogging due to the water passage design.

Water movement in the soil with drip irrigation:
When using drip emitters it is important to select the correct flow rate in order to achieve the right wetted pattern shape. In sandy soil, water tends to drain quickly (gravitational force) with little lateral movement, so applying a higher flow rate over a given time period will produce a wider pattern. Using point source irrigation with .5 GPH drip emitters for one hour will provide a smaller wetted area then using 1 GPH for the same time, due to the soil characteristics.

About drip irrigation:
Drip irrigation is the slow application of water directly to the plants' root zone in a predetermined pattern. Drip irrigation can be use to maintain optimum moisture level in the soil at all times that will results in less water lost to the sun and the wind. No water is wasted on non-growth areas, and the root zone is maintained at its ideal moisture level, combining the proper balance of water and air for a very efficient irrigation system.

One of the most important features of a drip irrigation system is the creation of a totally new and more favorable root zone environment within the planting. Drip irrigation sustains this environment by using low flow rates to maintain constant soil moisture levels. This encourages better growth and disease resistance by reducing plant stress.

Note: The pressure regulator (included) is used to lower the incoming pressure to the suggested operating pressure of 25 PSI, which is within the range of recommended pressures for a drip system.

Suggestion in connecting the 1/2" compression drip fittings. To install the 1/2" compression fittings, cut the drip tubing with a hand pruner, being careful to keep dirt from entering the line. Hold the compression fitting in one hand and the drip tubing in the other and force the drip tubing into the fitting by wiggling it from side to side. Make sure that the drip tubing is pushed into the compression fitting for about 1/2 to 5/8 of an inch for a very tight fit. No glue or clamps are required.

My first drip irrigation kit, and it includes almost everything I needed (I added a few specific components I wanted/needed. Easy to assemble, combine, layout, etc. Lots drip ends allowing me to choose what to do.

This year, I'm putting in different zones, bought another whole kit just to make sure that I have enough different end tips and other fittings. Packages shipped quick and arrived neatly (easy to find what I was looking for in them). Very happy with my purchases.

I just installed this system on a large garden area that also has trees, shrubs and raised flower beds around the perimeter. It took me a day and a half to finish the project. The only reason it took so long was because I was working by myself and I had to remove landscape rock in the areas where I ran the lines and had to deal with the terrible rock and clay soil in Central Arkansas! I could not have been more pleased with The Drip Store product. Running the line and connecting everything went together fast. Your hands will get chapped pushing the compression fittings together, buy some hand lotion. Buy some "C" clamps with nails to fasten the tubing to landscape timbers or wood, sure makes a clean installation. My family thought that I was crazy when I turned on the system and screamed with delight at the sight of the micro-sprinklers! You'll know what I mean when you finish the project! Keep up the good work Drip Store.

Lots of parts! Sorted, packed & labeled well. Wish it had included the barb install tool - I didn't know about this or would have bought one - sore hands!! But then I'm getting older.

Great way to begin--Tinker Toys for adults. Added a 9-volt battery powered timer and automated the watering of our extensively landscaped backyard--150 trees, plants, flowers and shrubs. We installed the system in about the time it normally takes to drag the hose around and water the yard once. Now we water twice a day for 15 minutes each--all automatically. Next weekend we'll cover the line with mulch and no one will be the wiser.

I just ordered some more supplies and we'll begin the front yard (180 plants) next.

BTW, 500 ft seems like a lot of 1/2 inch tubing, but if your landscaping is two or three deep you'll find it easiest to run two or three parallel rows of 1/2 tubing using t connectors, so you use a lot more than you think you will.

  • Dripper flow rate: 1, 2 and 4 GPH Black
  • Maximum incoming operating pressure: 100 PSI
  • Operating pressure: 10 to 45 PSI

Installation for K009

This drip irrigation kit has all the parts needed to start the system connecting to a faucet.  The Drip Store also includes instructions on how to start the system from a PVC pipe or a pipe thread.

Starting the irrigation system from a faucet:

  • Optional: If you wish to automate the system, first connect a battery-operated timer to the faucet (suggested model C001 - not included in this kit).
  1. Connect the 3/4"  FHT x MHT backflow device (model A015) to the controller or to the faucet if not used with a controller.
  2. Connect the 3/4": FHT x MHT filter (model F300) to the backflow device if used, or directly to the controller male outlet or faucet.
  3. Connect the 3/4"  FHT x MHT pressure regulator (model A013) to the filter.

Optional: Starting the irrigation system from a PVC pipe:

  1. Glue to a 3/4" PVC pipe a PVC male adapter (model P357) (not included).
  2. Use the 3/4" MHT x MPT nipple (model A010) to connect to the pipe thread making sure to use 3-5 rounds of Teflon tape.
  3. Connect the 3/4" FHT x MHT battery-operated controller (model C001) to the nipple.
  4. Connect the 3/4" FHT x MHT backflow device (model A015) to the controller (not included), or to the faucet.
  5. Connect the 3/4" FHT x MHT filter (model F300) to the backflow device, if used, or directly to the controller male outlet or faucet.
  6. Connect the 3/4" FHT x MHT 25 PSI pressure regulator (model A013) to the filter.

Steps to connect all others components:

  1. To the 3/4" FHT x MHT pressure regulator connect the 3/4" FHT swivel adapter (model LF503), to the adapter connect the poly tubing by wiggling and forcing the drip tubing into the compression side of the adapter and lay out the drip tubing to the garden area. The 1/2" drip tubing is used as the main line to deliver the water to the plants.
  2. Use the 1/2" elbow (model LF007) as needed.
  3. Use 1/2" coupling .700 O.D. (model LF001) to connect additional 1/2" drip tubing, or for repair.
  4. Use the 1/2" tee (model LF005) to split the 1/2" drip tubing if needed or for making a loop from the 1/2" drip hose around a tree.
  5. Turn the water on and flush the line, and then close the end of the 1/2"drip tubing (model T002) using hose end (model A006).
  6. Use the 1/4" micro tubing (model T010) to extend the drippers to the plants that are far from the 1/2" drip irrigation tubing.  If all the plants are next to the path of the 1/2" drip tubing, the 1/4" micro tubing is not needed.
  7. Use the 1/4" barb (model SF001) to connect the 1/4" micro tubing to the 1/2" drip tubing. To connect the 1/4' micro tubing to the 1/2" drip tubing punch a hole in the 1/2" drip hose using the punch (model A035) and insert the 1/4" barb, then connect the 1/4" micro tubing to the barb.

To water diverse planting such as trees, shrubs, bulbs and perennials, either option below can be utilized:

Option 1:For maximum system expansion using a single water source, and to better control the system’s total flow rate, use I GPH (gallons per hour) drippers (model D076). We recommend using drippers with the same flow rate to resolve the difficulty of irrigating a garden planted with a diversity of plant types and sizes, for example a garden with trees, shrubs, groundcovers, bulbs and perennials installed on the same system. To increase the amount of water applied to larger or thirstier plants, simply add more drippers, at intervals of 12” around the plant. This drip irrigation method provides the plant with a larger wetted area to cover a larger section of the plant root zone. By adjusting watering time, the right amount of water can then be applied .
