The Patio Drip Irrigation Kit from DIG Corporation contains 1 GPH (gallons per hour) pressure compensating drip emitters and can water up to 10 hanging pots, baskets and boxes on a patio or around the pool. The starter kit includes the components needed to water 10 small to medium pots and baskets. DIG drip irrigation patio kit can accommodate a flow rate of up to 35 GPH using 1 GPH drip emitters.

Suggestion in connecting the compression drip fittings. To install the compression fittings, cut the drip tubing with a hand pruner, being careful to keep dirt from entering the line. Hold the compression fitting in one hand and the drip tubing in the other and force the drip tubing into the fitting by wiggling it from side to side. Make sure that the drip tubing is pushed into the compression fitting for about 1/2 to 5/8 of an inch for a very tight fit. No glue or clamps are required.

Installation for FM01AS

 

Starting a drip irrigation system from a faucet:

Optional: If you wish to automate the system, first connect a battery-operated timer to the faucet (suggested model C001 - not included in this kit).

  1. Connect the 3/4"  FHT x MHT backflow device (model A015)to the faucetor to a controllerif used.
  2. Connect the 3/4" x 1/4" adapter with a screen (model A001) to the backflow device or to a pressure regulator if used.
  3. Connect the 50’ 1/4" micro tubing (model T009) to the faucet adapterand lay out the micro tubing near the pots, baskets or boxes.
  4. Near each basket, pot or container, cut the 1/4" micro tubing, and insert a 1/4" barbed tee (model SF003).  Connect the additional section of the 1/4" micro tubing and extend from the 1/4"  tee to the pot or basket.
  5. 4" to 6" from a group of pots or baskets cut the micro tubing and add a 1/4" ball valve (model A018). The ball valve is used to control the flow rate to a group of pots, baskets or container and to make sure that all runoff is equal from the pots and baskets in the group.
  6. To the ball valve add another piece of 1/4" micro tubing and run it into the pot, basket or container.
  7. Turn the water on and flush the line. After you flush the line close the end of the micro tubing using one of the dripper a secure the dripper with a 1/4" stake.
  8. To the end of the 1/4" micro tubing, and for basket of up to 8" in diameter, add a 1 GPH dripper (model D076).
  9. For basket larger than 8" and up to 12" in diameter: inside the pot or basket, instead of the dripper, add a 1/4" tee, to each side of the tee add a 3" to 5" length of micro tubing, and to the end of the micro tubing add a 1 GPH dripper .
  10. Secure the dripper in the pot using the 1/4" stake (model S005)
  11. If needed secure the micro tubing to a structure using 1/4" “C” clamps with a nail (model A005)

How much time to water:  Turn the water on, for 2 - 5 minutes. The goal is for all the pots and baskets regardless of size to drain at the same time. If using a battery operated timer, program the battery operated timer for about 1 - 3 minutes less than the time it took the pots and baskets to start draining.  If you need more water adjust the time on the timer or program additional start time. Run the irrigation system for two to three days a week, depending on your location and the soil type. After a week or two, check the pots and the health of the plants, and adjust the watering time as needed. If you need more water adjust the time on the controller or program additional start times.
