The Large K009, Drip Irrigation Kit is The Drip Stores' custom designed kit that contains all the parts needed to cover a very large garden. Including in this drip irrigation kit are 150 pressure compensating drip emitters with flow rates of 1, 2 and 4 GPH (gallons per hour). This drip irrigation kit has 500’ of high quality 1/2" drip hose and 100’ of 1/4" micro tubing that can be used to water more than 150 plants including roses, shrubs, ground cover and trees. This drip irrigation kit includes all the components needed to water small, medium and large size plants, and can accommodate a flow rate of up to 220 GPH, using drip emitters with a variety of flow rates.
Drip irrigation uniformity:
With higher uniformity over a wide range of pressures, the pressure compensating drip emitters, offers many advantages in site preservation with even water distribution, such as even uniformity over a longer lateral run with smaller size valves due to a smaller sized delivery system and resistance to clogging due to the water passage design.
Water movement in the soil with drip irrigation:
When using drip emitters it is important to select the correct flow rate in order to achieve the right wetted pattern shape. In sandy soil, water tends to drain quickly (gravitational force) with little lateral movement, so applying a higher flow rate over a given time period will produce a wider pattern. Using point source irrigation with .5 GPH drip emitters for one hour will provide a smaller wetted area then using 1 GPH for the same time, due to the soil characteristics.
About drip irrigation:
Drip irrigation is the slow application of water directly to the plants' root zone in a predetermined pattern. Drip irrigation can be use to maintain optimum moisture level in the soil at all times that will results in less water lost to the sun and the wind. No water is wasted on non-growth areas, and the root zone is maintained at its ideal moisture level, combining the proper balance of water and air for a very efficient irrigation system.
One of the most important features of a drip irrigation system is the creation of a totally new and more favorable root zone environment within the planting. Drip irrigation sustains this environment by using low flow rates to maintain constant soil moisture levels. This encourages better growth and disease resistance by reducing plant stress.
Note: The pressure regulator (included) is used to lower the incoming pressure to the suggested operating pressure of 25 PSI, which is within the range of recommended pressures for a drip system.
Suggestion in connecting the 1/2" compression drip fittings. To install the 1/2" compression fittings, cut the drip tubing with a hand pruner, being careful to keep dirt from entering the line. Hold the compression fitting in one hand and the drip tubing in the other and force the drip tubing into the fitting by wiggling it from side to side. Make sure that the drip tubing is pushed into the compression fitting for about 1/2 to 5/8 of an inch for a very tight fit. No glue or clamps are required.
This drip irrigation kit has all the parts needed to start the system connecting to a faucet. The Drip Store also includes instructions on how to start the system from a PVC pipe or a pipe thread.
Starting the irrigation system from a faucet:
Optional: Starting the irrigation system from a PVC pipe:
Steps to connect all others components:
To water diverse planting such as trees, shrubs, bulbs and perennials, either option below can be utilized:
Option 1:For maximum system expansion using a single water source, and to better control the system’s total flow rate, use I GPH (gallons per hour) drippers (model D076). We recommend using drippers with the same flow rate to resolve the difficulty of irrigating a garden planted with a diversity of plant types and sizes, for example a garden with trees, shrubs, groundcovers, bulbs and perennials installed on the same system. To increase the amount of water applied to larger or thirstier plants, simply add more drippers, at intervals of 12” around the plant. This drip irrigation method provides the plant with a larger wetted area to cover a larger section of the plant root zone. By adjusting watering time, the right amount of water can then be applied .
