The Drip Irrigation and Mist Retrofit Kit Model MD50 made by DIG Corporation is designed to retrofit a 1/2" riser under a sprinkler into a drip irrigation system without affecting the sprinkler performance. The MD50 Drip and Mist Irrigation Retrofit kit is used for watering up to 6 planters, containers, and pots that are close to the sprinkler riser. This drip and mist irrigation kit can start from any sprinkler riser. The drip and mist irrigation kit includes a 1/2" FNPT inlet and MNPT outlet with a side 1/4" barbed elbow, 50’ of high quality 1/4” micro tubing, two foggers, four adjustable drippers and all the components needed to install the kit.

Drip irrigation is the slow application of water directly to the plants' root zone in a predetermined pattern. Maintaining an optimum moisture level in the soil at all times results in less water lost to the sun and the wind. No water is wasted on non-growth areas, and the root zone is maintained at its ideal moisture level, combining the proper balance of water and air for a very efficient irrigation system.

One of the most important features of a drip irrigation system is the creation of a totally new and more favorable root zone environment within the planting. Drip irrigation sustains this environment by using low flow rates to maintain constant soil moisture levels. This encourages better growth and disease resistance by reducing plant stress.

Retrofit System layout for MD50

First, remove the sprinkler head from the 1/2" riser, turn the water on momentarily and flush out the riser. Then turn the water off and screw the adapter (model A012) onto the sprinkler riser.
Reconnect the sprinkler to the male pipe thread of the adapter.
Insert the 1/4" micro tubing (model T009) into the 1/4" barbed outlet on the adapter and run the micro tubing to the pot and basket locations.
Near each pot or container cut the 1/4" micro tubing and connect a 1/4" barbed tee (model SF003).
To the 1/4" barbed tee connect an additional section of 1/4" micro tubing and lay it out to the pots or containers.
Insert the fogger (model MS008) into the end of the 1/4" micro tubing and secure the fogger with a stake (model S003). Use the foggers to cover containers and pots sized 12” and up.
Insert the adjustable dripper (model D032) into the end of the micro tubing and secure the stake into the pot. Use the adjustable drippers to cover a pot or container up to 12” in diameter.
Close the end of the 1/4" micro tubing using the plugs (model SF007)
Turn the water on and make sure that each of the dripper and fogger locations is working correctly and, if necessary, move the stake locations closer to the plants.

How much time to water:

For a mix of sprinklers and a drip irrigation system:If the irrigation system is comprised of pop up sprinklers and one or more drip irrigation heads, then turn the water onfor the same time that the sprinkler system was running.
