Pressure gauges are used to read system pressure. When measuring pressure, remember that static pressure and dynamic pressure are different.
- Static pressure refers the system pressure when there is no water exiting the system, ie when all drippers and ends are closed.
- Dynamic pressure refers to the system pressure when it is running at normal capacity, ie when all drippers are open and operating as intended.
Pressure increases as flow rate decreases, so while your system may have sufficient static pressure, the pressure may drop below the required threshold for your system once you open it up to measure your dynamic pressure.
Drip irrigation systems tend to operate best at a dyanmic pressure of roughly 25 psi.
